Bio

Janny Richter is a singer, songwriter, and award-winning composer whose sound has been described as “Elvis meets Depeche Mode.” Blending Americana, post-punk attitude, and electronic pop into a high-energy, cinematic form, Richter is the creator of Discobilly — his own genre where rock’n’roll swagger collides with old-school electro and cowboy swing. Known as The Discobilly Cowboy, he delivers music that is unapologetically physical, visual, and built for both the stage and the screen.

Richter is the composer behind the acclaimed television series Metoda Markovič: Hojer and its sequel Straka, earning major recognition for his bold, contemporary approach to storytelling through sound. His work bridges underground club culture with mainstream media, fusing roots music, 80s pop aesthetics, and modern electro grit.

His latest album, Discobilly, is both a musical statement and a manifesto. More than a record, it introduces a self-invented genre where rock’n’roll audacity meets old-school electro and cowboy swing. Built on groove, attitude, and raw sexuality, Discobilly rejects heavy philosophy in favor of pure energy and connection — positioning Richter at the center of a growing international scene.

A relentless live performer, Richter is known for dangerously electrifying shows that blur the line between concert and spectacle. Since 2015, he has toured internationally, sharing stages with artists such as Phil Shoenfelt, Moimir Papalescu, and Laid Back Country Picker. His visual world — filmed across the American West and the streets of Prague — extends his music into a cinematic, international narrative.

Beyond music, Richter is also a visual artist and photographer. He has released four books focused on the American West and regularly exhibits his work in galleries across Europe and the United States.
Janny Richter has released three studio albums, composed multiple film and television scores, and has been featured in The Montana Standard, The Bozone, Full Moon Magazine, and more.
